See the real tags on any Etsy listing

Install the free ListingSafe extension, open any listing on Etsy, and a panel shows the tags it actually uses (up to 13), with trademarked words marked in red.

No account: 20 listings a day. Free account: 100. Basic: 1,000 a day. Pro: 3,000 a day.

The problem

Etsy doesn't show a listing's tags on the page. The row of searches near the bottom is a different list, so copying it tells you little about what the seller actually tagged.

Open any listing: the tags it uses, trademarked ones in red.

What you get

Every tag it really uses.

Up to 13, read from Etsy's own listing data, not the related-search chips on the page.

Trademarked words marked red.

So you know which ones not to copy into your own listing.

The related searches Etsy shows for it.

Plus the shop's total sales, and the listing's reviews and favourites.

Copy them in one click.

With or without the trademarked ones.

Where the tags come from

They're read from Etsy's own listing data, the same tags the seller typed in, up to 13. Trademark flags come from our list of trademarked brand names, the same list our Listing Optimizer uses.

What 589 listings show about tags

We read the tags on 589 active listings through Etsy's API on 25 September 2026: the 50 newest listings for each of 12 common searches. Four things stood out.

  • Tags are one seller's choices. Of 5,657 different tags, 88% appeared on exactly one listing. The most common, "gift for her", was on 29 listings, about 5%.
  • A tag that looks everywhere may be one shop. Among the newest "soy candle" listings, "scented candle" was on 20, and 14 of those came from a single shop that puts the same 13 tags on every candle.
  • Tags cover what the title doesn't. Only 16% repeated a phrase from the title word for word, and only 9% were single words.
  • A tag on a live listing isn't proof the word is safe. One sticker listing in the sample had two planner brand names among its 13 tags.

So when the panel shows you a listing's tags, read them as 13 decisions by one seller, not a formula for the category.

Using what you see

Open five to ten listings like yours, keep the phrases that turn up on several of them and fit your item, and leave out anything marked red. The step-by-step version, with the rest of the sample, is in our guide to seeing the tags on any Etsy listing.

More on the same panel

Next to the tags, the panel shows the related searches Etsy lists for that listing, labelled separately so you never mix the two, plus the shop's total sales and the listing's reviews and favourites. The related searches and shop numbers don't count toward your daily limit. On your own listings, sign in free and the Optimize tab appears: a search score, a rewritten title and 13 tags, and a trademark check, without leaving Etsy.

How it works

  1. Add the extension to Chrome or Edge.
  2. Open any Etsy listing — the panel opens on the right.
  3. See the real tags on 20 listings a day without an account. Sign in free to raise it to 100.

FAQ

Do I need an account?

Not to start. Open any Etsy listing and the panel shows its real tags, up to 20 listings a day. A free Google sign-in raises that to 100 and unlocks Optimize.

Where did keyword research go?

It moved into the extension. The listings Etsy shows first depend on who's searching, and that isn't in Etsy's public data, so we show you the real tags of the listing you're actually looking at instead. If you're comparing it with a keyword tool, here's how ListingSafe compares with eRank.

Does it change anything in my Etsy shop?

No. The extension only reads the listing you're viewing. You copy what you want.

Do I need a paid plan?

No. You can see the real tags on 20 listings a day without an account, and a free account raises it to 100. Related searches and shop numbers don't count toward either.

How many tags can an Etsy listing have?

Up to 13, and each can be up to 20 characters. Not every seller fills them: in our sample, 47 of 50 new wedding invitation templates used all 13, while stickers were lowest at 32 of 47.

Why don't the tags match the searches at the bottom of the listing?

They're two different lists. The tags are what the seller typed in. The row near the bottom is built by Etsy, and on one listing we compared, only 3 of its 13 matched. The panel shows both and labels which is which.

Does it show search volume or rank?

No. Etsy doesn't share either with outside tools, so the panel shows the tags a listing really uses rather than a guess at how often they're searched.

Can I see the tags for a whole shop?

Yes, in the Etsy shop analyzer: paste a shop, open any of its active listings, and its tags are there with trademarked words in red.

Add the free extension. Open any Etsy listing and see the tags it really uses, no sign-up to start.
