About ListingSafe

I'm Wayne Chiu, a backend engineer in Taiwan. I build ListingSafe and write its blog.

Why I built it

Etsy removes listings when a title or tag uses someone else's trademark, and a lot of those words don't look like brands. Koozie, onesie and velcro are all registered. Keyword tools suggest them anyway, and a seller usually finds out from a removal notice. ListingSafe checks a listing before Etsy does, then rewrites it so it gets found in search without bringing a brand name back in.

What it does

  • Listing Optimizer: a search score before and after, a new title, 13 tags and description, and the trademark and policy check, in one scan.
  • Browser extension: open any Etsy listing and see the tags it really uses, with trademarked words marked red.
  • Shop Analyzer: Etsy's own sales count for any shop, its listings sorted by estimated monthly sales, and the tags behind them.
  • Listing Generator: writes the title, tags and description around your keywords and checks each one first.
  • Copycat Watch and removal notice help: where your photos show up, and what an Etsy notice means and how to reply.

Where the data comes from

  • Trademark flags come from a list of brand names that owners actively enforce on Etsy, checked against the USPTO register. When a word is a registered mark, the flag links to the official record: holder, registration number and status.
  • Tags and shop numbers are read from Etsy's own listing and shop data through the Etsy API, which ListingSafe has commercial access to.
  • Monthly sales are estimates. Every estimate is labelled as one and shows how it was worked out.

How the blog is written

Every policy point links to Etsy's Help Center or the official source it comes from, so you can check it yourself. All posts are on the ListingSafe blog.
