Etsy Appeal Letter Generator: Paste the Removal Notice, Get the Right Letter
Etsy removes listings for three different reasons, and each has a different route back. Paste the notice, we work out which one it is, and write that letter around your facts, with where to send it.
The problem
The templates online all look the same, but a Creativity Standards removal is appealed to Etsy, a DMCA removal needs a counter notice, and a trademark report can only be withdrawn by the party who filed it. Send the wrong letter down the wrong route and it's wasted, and some routes can only be used once.
Paste the notice, tell your story, get the letter.
Three removals, three letters
Creativity Standards (handmade, design partner, vintage).
A strong appeal is specific: how you make it, which tools, how long, how many people. We turn the steps you fill in into the account Etsy is looking for.
Copyright / DMCA.
A counter notice. It's a sworn statement, so it says only what you tell us. If you hold a licence rather than having made the work yourself, say so; that's a valid basis. If the same party has reported you before, the letter adds the rule that covers knowingly false takedowns.
Trademark / IP.
Etsy doesn't rule on trademark disputes; only the reporter can withdraw. So this letter goes to the reporter: ask them to retract, ask for a licence, or ask whether a renamed relist is acceptable. If your Policy violations page offers "View & appeal" for this listing, file that in parallel — don't wait on it, the reporter is still the one who can withdraw the report. You choose the goal.
Checked before you see it
- A counter notice that carries what the law asks for. US copyright law lists what a counter notice has to contain, including a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification, and your consent to a federal court's jurisdiction and to accept service. Before you see the letter, we check those statements are in it. If one is missing, the letter is written again; if it's still missing, you don't get the letter and the credit comes back.
- Only what you told us. The letter can't claim things you didn't say: that you've already changed the listing, that you're the only maker, how many years you've been selling. If a sentence like that isn't backed by your answers or the notice, it's taken out.
- The details from your notice, filled in. The listing ID in the notice goes into the letter, and a trademark letter is addressed to the reporter the notice names.
- Creativity Standards appeals in the order Etsy asks. Etsy's appeal form asks for the steps you take to make, design or source the item, everyone involved, including production partners, and up to 12 supporting files. Your answers are written up the same way.
Not sure which removal you got?
Paste the email into the removal notice reader first. It's free, needs no account for up to 3 notices a day, and tells you which kind it is, where the reply goes and how long you have. Sign in from there and this page opens with your notice already filled in.
How it works
- Paste the Etsy removal notice, or pick the type yourself.
- Answer a few questions about the listing.
- Get the letter: editable line by line, copy it, download it, or email it to yourself.
After you send it
- Creativity Standards: Etsy says most reviews take about 3 days and some up to 10 to 12 business days. A rejected appeal can't be sent again, which is why the first one has to be complete.
- Copyright: Etsy forwards your counter notice to the person who reported you. If they don't start a court action within 10 to 14 business days, Etsy can put the listing back.
- Trademark: give the reporter 5 to 7 business days to reply. If your Policy violations page offers View & appeal for the listing, use it at the same time rather than waiting.
FAQ
Is it free?
One letter costs 1 credit and the Free plan includes 20 a month. Detecting the removal type doesn't use a credit.
How long do I have to appeal?
180 days from removal unless the notice says otherwise. Each listing is appealed separately, and a rejected appeal can't be resubmitted, so get the first one right.
What is a DMCA counter notice?
The formal reply to a US copyright report. It's a sworn statement, so we write it only from the facts you give and you review every line before sending.
Can a trademark removal be appealed to Etsy?
There's no counter-notice for trademark reports on Etsy — Etsy says it doesn't make infringement determinations, and only the party that filed the report can withdraw it, which is why the trademark letter is addressed to them. Etsy has also been rolling out listing appeals on the Policy violations page through 2026, Intellectual Property included, so file one in parallel where the entry offers "View & appeal" — but don't wait on it, the reporter is still the only one who can withdraw the report.
Where is my letter saved?
The draft autosaves in your browser, and you can download it as .txt or email it to yourself.
Can I appeal a suspended shop here?
No. This page writes letters for removed listings. A suspended or closed shop is appealed through Etsy support, not the listing appeal form.
Do you send the letter for me?
No. You get the letter and the submission steps, and you send it yourself: from Shop Manager, through the link in Etsy's email, or to the reporter, depending on the kind.
